摘要

Severe plastic deformation (SPD) has emerged as a transformative materials processing technique capable of producing nanostructured materials with exceptional properties. This field, generally known as NanoSPD, continues to experience growth in research activity across the world. By subjecting materials to extreme strains (usually shear), SPD techniques refine the grain structures down to the submicrometer or nanometer scale while introducing high densities of defects and metastable phases. This produces materials exhibiting superfunctional characteristics that combine enhanced mechanical properties with novel functional behaviors. This report reviews knowledge from extensive research on SPD-processed materials, covering the spectrum of processing techniques, the underlying physical mechanisms and a broad range of applications. Particular emphasis is placed on SPD enabling breakthroughs in energy storage materials, catalytic systems, biomedical implants and other advanced technologies. The interdisciplinary nature of SPD research is highlighted, ranging from hydrogen energy technologies to geoscience and astrobiology.
