Tribo-dynamic oscillating friction of metal pairs under triacetin-added lubricant starvation
摘要
In machinery operations, metal pairs under relative movements may rise in friction if a sufficient oil supply cannot be properly provided. In some cases, starved lubrication may also occur during sudden changes in friction conditions and lubrication regime. Lubricating the contacts using a suitable lubricating agent is essential. This research aims to use triacetin as a lubricant additive with oil, used for automotive applications, to measure the friction between different metal pairs. The main aim of this work is to explore friction under starved lubrication using a novel tribometer. The damped free responses can then be assessed at high precision. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the various metals as well as the viscosity of the different lubricants are measured.
