A review of setting retardation methods for alkali-activated cementitious materials
摘要
Alkali-activated cementitious materials (AACMs) have shown great potential in the field of construction materials due to their excellent properties, such as high early strength, good durability, and low energy consumption during preparation. However, AACMs based on high-calcium reactive precursors often exhibit excessively rapid setting and hardening, making the regulation of setting time a pressing issue. This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent advances in retardation methods for AACMs. First, the characteristics of the setting and hardening behavior of high-calcium alkali-activated system are described. Then, the effects and underlying mechanisms of various factors—such as the type of alkali activator, ambient temperature, chemical retarders (including inorganic and organic types), and sustained-release technologies for alkali activators (both chemical and physical)—on the setting time are discussed in detail. Finally, the advantages and limitations of different retardation methods are analyzed, providing theoretical guidance for the practical application of AACMs in engineering.
