摘要

With the surge in the usage of electronic devices, electromagnetic radiations are becoming the biggest concern for the end users. A need for cost effective, light weight, flexible, compressible, moldable, non-corrodible materials can address this problem. One such material is polymeric foam. This article reviews the advances in polymeric foam nanocomposites showing EMI shielding capabilities. The article discusses the different processes of foaming of polymers and processes adopted by researchers to enhance electrical conductivity of the foamed polymers, thereby enhancing the EMI shielding efficiency. We compared different polymers and the conducting fillers-based polymeric foams for their electrical conductivity and EMI shielding efficiency. Among the reported literature polymers namely polyurethane, epoxy, melamine, PMMA, polyimides are used for EMI shielding applications. The highest EMI shielding efficiency was observed in the case of MXene (0.82 vol.%)-based polyurethane foam composite synthesized using dip coating method. The current research trend indicates the possibility of bringing more polymers in polymeric foams to achieve a variety of properties to cater to the need of the application. Usage of renewable raw material in the polymeric system nanomaterial, i.e., MXene has shown promising properties in enhancing the EMI shielding efficiency in the polymeric foams.
