<p>Extra Deletion (ED) was first proposed in An 2016 to explain the omission of elements such as case markers, postpositions, and lexical heads in Fragment Answer contexts in Korean. This omission is argued to occur only when these elements are adjacent to an independently created deletion site, due to the fact that PF-deletion is based on linear order. ED is significant for linguistic theory as it provides a natural account of non-constituent deletion, a phenomenon challenging to traditional approaches to ellipsis, while also offering insights into the architecture of the PF branch. This paper has three main goals. First, it traces the origin and development of ED from An 2007, highlighting the parallel behavior of Right Node Raising and Fragment Answers with respect to ED, thereby supporting ellipsis-based analyses for both. Second, it explores the nature of ED and its theoretical implications, discussing constraints on ED that align with the morpho-phonological restrictions of the language. It also examines the implications of ED for the architecture of the PF component and the timing of ellipsis. Third, it explores recent extensions of ED to other ellipsis constructions in languages such as Digor Ossetic, Iron Ossetic, Eastern Armenian, Turkish, and Japanese, demonstrating its potential as a robust grammatical and analytical tool.</p>
