摘要

Asparagopsis taxiformis produces and accumulates high concentration of bromoform, which effectively inhibits enteric methanogenesis. Therefore, A. taxiformis has been gaining attention worldwide due to its substantial economic and environmental value. However, its supply mainly depends on wild harvesting, leading to high costs. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of light quality and photoperiod on the growth, photosynthesis and pigment contents of tetrasporophytes of A. taxiformis to optimize cultivation conditions. The tetrasporophytes were cultivated at conditions combining different light qualities (white, blue, red and blue+red) and photoperiods (8:16h and 12:12h) for 56 days. Specific growth rates, photosynthetic activity and efficiency, chlorophyll-a, phycobiliprotein (phycoerythrin and phycocyanin) contents were measured. Regardless of photoperiod, the highest growth and photosynthetic activity were observed under blue light. The lowest growth and photosynthetic activity were observed under red light. However, the highest chlorophyll-a and phycoerythrin contents were observed under red light, regardless of the photoperiod. These results showed that the optimal light quality for growth and pigment contents in A. taxiformis were blue and red light, respectively. Therefore, land-based cultivation of A. taxiformis might be optimized by adjusting the blue or red light during different periods.
