Perspectives of the future, identity, and career constructions among college students in the face of the climate crisis: an outlook from Southern countries
摘要
This study aimed to identify, understand, and compare the career constructions and future working prospects of college students in Southern countries amid the climate crisis. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with 50 participants—10 from each of the following countries: Brazil, Burkina Faso, Iran, Lebanon, and Tunisia, and used content analysis. Findings show that, despite differences, Southern countries face similar struggles. Conflicting emotions regarding climate change shape students’ future careers and life outlooks, sparking activism or specific actions. The climate crisis impacts life, education, and career planning. The study concludes that career guidance and counseling should address climate issues more directly.
