Navigating futures: examining how the addition of senior high school tracks influenced postsecondary aspirations among education majors in the Philippines
摘要
This study investigates Filipino students’ educational and career aspirations following a national education reform adding two senior high school years and introducing academic and technical vocation-livelihood tracks. Focus groups were conducted with education majors in an instrumental case study of Urdaneta City University. The findings indicate support for the expectancy-value theory and FIT-Choice framework, with student's educational pathways infuenced by their ability beliefs and achievement value perceptions. Some students faced constraints such as information gaps. Many students found alignment between high school strands and university majors, aiding postsecondary major choices. This study highlights the interplay between individual choices, structural constraints, and social influences in shaping educational trajectories.
