摘要

Multiband operation of an antenna is recommended for the applications of the forthcoming generations of wireless communication. The present work proposes a compact microstrip patch antenna to operate simultaneously at 28 GHz and 38 GHz. The present work proposes a miniature microstrip patch antenna to operate over narrow frequency bands around 28 and 38 GHz. The antenna is constructed as a main patch coupled to parasitic element through a narrow slot. The main patch has circular geometry and is fed through a microstrip line with inset feed. A prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated for experimental evaluation. The simulation results and measurements show good agreement with each other. It is shown that the proposed dual-band antenna has perfectly matched impedance over the frequency bands 27.25–28.25 GHz (0.5 GHz bandwidth) and 37.7–38.3 GHz (0.6 GHz bandwidth). Also, it is shown that the maximum gain obtained at 28 GHz is about \(7\text{ dBi}\) 7 dBi , whereas the maximum gain obtained at 38 GHz is about 6.5 dBi. The radiation and total efficiencies are maintained above 87% and 84%, respectively, over the frequency band around 28 GHz. On the other hand, the radiation and total efficiencies are maintained above 86% and 83%, respectively, over the frequency band around 38 GHz.
