A comprehensive review of additive manufacturing materials, design approaches and fabrication methods
摘要
By building products layer by layer using digital models, Additive Manufacturing (AM), often known as 3D printing, is a disruptive manufacturing technique that enables the production of intricate geometries and unique designs that are not possible with conventional subtractive methods. The main advantages are reducing material waste, enhanced design flexibility, and the ability to use high-value or specialized materials efficiently. AM also supports rapid prototyping and agile development, significantly shortening product design cycles and lowering costs. This expertise makes it a standout among industries such as aerospace, motorized, biomedical, and consumer electronics, where performance, customization, and time-to-market are critical. This review offers a comprehensive overview of AM technologies, including FDM, SLS, SLA, and DMLS, along with advances in material modeling, key industrial applications, and optimization strategies to improve process performance and the value of manufactured goods. It emphasizes recent developments, identifies emerging trends, and outlines future research directions, serving as a valuable resource for researchers, academics, and industry practitioners seeking to advance and expand the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies. The objective is to support investigators and consultants in leveraging AM for next-generation manufacturing solutions.
