<p>We analyzed the taxonomic and functional beta diversity of rotifers in four neotropical floodplains (Amazonas, Araguaia, Pantanal, and Paraná rivers), in order to analyze whether there are differences in the composition and structure of the community among the floodplains in both drought and flooding periods. Differences in taxonomic and functional beta diversity were tested using multivariate statistics. 128 species were identified, mainly in the Paraná River (84 species), followed by Amazonas (78), Araguaia (77), and Pantanal (75). Functionally equal species were grouped together. The taxonomic and functional beta diversity of rotifers showed a significant difference between the Paraná and Amazon floodplains during the flooding period. During the drought period, the taxonomic diversity was significantly different between Araguaia and Amazonas floodplains, and the Paraná and Araguaia floodplains. Functional beta diversity did not show a significant difference in this period. The seasonality of the floodplain affected the community diversity differently. Therefore, research on taxonomic beta diversity must be followed by functional beta diversity to better understand the dynamics and functioning of the ecosystem, as well as its preservation.</p>
