<p>If external bearing housings experience hindered thermal displacements during operation, it is commonly recommended to measure the loads on cylinder lugs and apply corrections if necessary. This study analyzes existing recommendations for such measurements and identifies the absence of a standardized measurement procedure. Furthermore, significant factors affecting the reliability of measurements are highlighted. The principles of the measurement procedure that enhance the reliability of results and corresponding recommendations are formulated.</p>
