<p>Based on the analysis of the S. Tonkin, et al. experiment, it was found that the missing mechanism responsible for excessive scour from tsunami waves is the pore pressure gradient resulting from the rapid decrease in pressure as the wave rolls back, i.e., instantaneous ground liquefaction. In analyzing the experiments, it was found that significant ground instability occurs when the scour enhanced parameter Λ ≥ 0.5. Using the CurveExpert PC, the formula for determining the scour depth was modified.</p>
