摘要
In Arunachal Pradesh, diverse wild bananas belonging to genus Musa have been reported, and several new species recently described from the area. The main objective of the present study is to revise and update the distribution and the occurrence of wild Musa species in Arunachal Pradesh. An in-depth literature review was conducted to determine the location of occurrence, and many field visits were conducted in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The findings recorded 22 wild Musa species, of which 15 were ornamental Musa species, 3 varieties and 2 unidentified species belonging to ornamental Musa from the state. Specific locations with the place of occurrence were also documented. Musa itinerans Cheesman was found to be distributed in most districts and the most widespread distribution range in various habitats ranging from 156–1711 MASL. Musa sanguinea Hook.f. was found during the present study from the wild which was reported as extinct from wild of Assam. These findings suggest that Arunachal Pradesh is one of the diverse regions for wild Musa and may be considered as one of the centers of origin of the Musa. The data documented here will help in providing a valuable contribution to the conservation and use of the wild bananas in Arunachal Pradesh.
