<p>In sorghum [<i>Sorghum bicolor</i> (L.) Moench.] hybrid breeding, <i>milo</i> serves as the primary source of cytoplasmic male sterility and is widely utilized in commercial hybrid production. The risks associated with this limited cytoplasmic base are evident, prompting the identification of new diverse male sterile cytoplasmic sources such as A<sub>2</sub>, A<sub>3</sub>, A<sub>4</sub>, <i>maldandi</i>, <i>VZM</i>, and <i>G</i><sub><i>1</i></sub>. However, the commercial use of these sources has been hindered by challenges in fertility restoration. With this background a study was conducted at two environments, namely Regional Agricultural Research Station, Vijayapur (<i>rabi</i> 2022) and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad (<i>rabi</i> 2023) to evaluate various sorghum germplasm lines for their ability to restore or maintain fertility on <i>maldandi</i> cytoplasm. Sixty-six diverse germplasm accessions were crossed as pollinators with M31-2A (<i>maldandi</i>) male sterile line. Based on the seed set on bagged ear heads of F<sub>1</sub> hybrids, the pollinators were classified as fertility restorers or maintainers. The restoration research indicated that eight pollinator lines exhibited strong fertility restoration (&gt; 90% seed set) on <i>maldandi</i> cytoplasm. These identified restorers viz<i>.</i>, 2118–3, IC 352433, IC 352208, IC 287925, PEC 18, EC 6, IC 352411, ST-GRPM-PU 31 will be useful in strengthening <i>maldandi</i> cytoplasm based <i>rabi</i> sorghum hybrid breeding programme.</p>
