Ecogeographic study of Lippia lasiocalycina Cham. (Verbenaceae)

Brazil hosts a vast biodiversity across, encompassing medicinal species. The genus Lippia Linn. comprises approximately 200 species widely studied for their chemical composition and bioactive potential. Lippia lasiocalycina Cham., a wild species native to Brazil, has been little studied from a phytochemical perspective, however, research indicates its volatile compounds have high fungicidal and larvicidal activity. The degradation of its natural habitats, due to anthropogenic actions, has endangered this plant genetic resource, so that conservation efforts are necessary. In this context, ecogeographical investigations are essential to assist in the formulation of strategies for the conservation and cultivation of the species. Thus, the research aimed to carry out the study with the species. Collection data for the specie were retrieved from the SpeciesLink platform, and based on the geographic coordinates of occurrence sites, data on climate, altitude, temperature, and precipitation were gathered. Additionally, information on biomes and soil classification was obtained in specialized platforms. Records were identified in 126 municipalities across 15 states, 13 in Brazil, one in Bolivia, and one in Paraguay. The species was found in throughout Brazil, primarily in the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast regions, predominantly in the states of Bahia, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais, and showed tolerance to a wide range of temperature, annual precipitation, altitude, and relative humidity. Furthermore, the species showed greater affinity for areas with dystrophic soils, mostly occurring in the Cerrado biome and regions with tropical climate, in well-drained Red Latosol soils with low cation exchange capacity, low fertility, and acidic pH.
