Untouched major voices in human geographies: a systematic representation
摘要
According to human geographers, modern human geography has become increasingly multidimensional over the last thirty years. However, so far, no bibliometric analysis has been carried out to systematically and quantitatively measure the degree of multifaceted themes in human geography, including those studied across countries. In this paper, our goal is to analyze the state of the art in human geography regarding multidimensional themes and their spatial representation, using bibliometric and network-based clustering techniques applied to publications in Progress in Human Geography. The findings reveal several dominant thematic clusters, including climate change and geospatial technologies, health and spatial identities, and urban processes and socio-political transformations, highlighting the multi-thematic and interdisciplinary nature of the discipline. We conclude that multi-themes are prominent and highlight the underrepresentation of the Global South, emphasizing that the trend reflects limited visibility within high-impact, Global North-based journals rather than a lack of research output or of multiparadigm, interdisciplinary, and collaborative strategies for the future growth of human geography.
