<p>This study examines the relationship between economic and demographic factors and access to clean water infrastructure in China, spanning the period from 2018 to 2023. Through both spatial and time-based analysis, we found strong positive links between regional GDP per capita and the development of water treatment infrastructure. There’s been a steady rise in the number of water treatment plants from just 15 in 2018 up to 35 by 2023, and the percentage of the population with access to clean water also went up notably, from 70 to 88% during that period. However, when you look deeper into the numbers, apparent differences show up between urban, suburban, and rural populations. Metropolitan areas had the best access (40.9%), followed by suburban (34.1%) and rural regions (only 25.0%), indicating a significant gap. A breakdown by region shows that the northern part of the country has the most infrastructure coverage (around 70%), while the western part is lagging at just 50%. In terms of funding, most of the support still comes from the government, about 75% while the private sector pitched in with 18%, and international aid accounted for 7%. So, even though progress is visible, the picture isn’t completely balanced. This research gives valuable insights and offers policy suggestions that could help reduce regional inequalities in water access. To make water access more fair across different groups and locations, more targeted planning and better resource allocation would be needed.</p>
