<p>This study investigates the ground-borne vibration and noise caused by impact pile driving of precast concrete piles using hydraulic and drop hammers in two regions in Thailand, i.e. Bangkok and Eastern regions. Vibrations are measured on the ground surface at different distances from the sources at several sites. The characteristics of the resulting vibrations from pile driving are presented, i.e. (i) the magnitude of ground vibration and dominant direction during pile driving, (ii) vibration of structural elements, and (iii) dominant frequency of vibration. The site-specific empirical equations to evaluate ground vibration due to pile driving in the studied areas are proposed. It is found that the vibration magnitude of Bangkok region from this study are much larger than those previously reported. The effects of pre-boring to minimize ground vibration are investigated and its efficiency is discussed. The site-specific empirical equations to evaluate sound level produced by pile driving are also presented.</p>
