Assessment of Cardboard Roughness by Cross-Section Analysis
摘要
Multilayer fibrous composite materials, which include cardboard, have complicated macro- and microstructures. The tendency of fibers to form floccules during preparation of a fibrous suspension is considered the main reason for the unevenness of paper and cardboard structures that subsequently affects the roughness. This parameter affects the quality of information written on cardboard, the most common packaging material in the world. The studies showed that the surface roughness did not change upon separating a fibrous material into layers. A comparison of the results confirmed that the Bendtsen roughness in mL/min and the estimated Ra, Rz, and Rmax profiles were not correlated. A method for assessing the roughness of uncoated cardboard using graphical and analytical programs was described. Direct analysis of the profile was unlimited for assessment of the roughness, in contrast to indirect analysis. Direct analysis of the roughness by graphical processing was applicable regardless of the presence of a coated layer and could be used to assess the printing quality on uncoated cardboard, which is important for attractive packaging.
