<p>A solution to the global problem of the accumulation of polymer waste in the environment was approached by the research results. The potential of using ammonium salts of a certain structure for secondary processing of poly(ethylene terephthalate) materials to produce terephthalic acid was demonstrated. The yield of the target product was shown to decrease by 2-3 times upon increasing the concentration of hydroxide anions in the reaction system.</p>
