The role of the construction industry and its branches in building community resilience
摘要
As humanity braces itself to encounter extreme stressors from climate changes to natural resource depletion and from food and water scarcity to pandemics and novel pathogens, our options are limited; either we become more resilient or prepare for more wars and atrocities. Building resilience in communities is a transdisciplinary endeavor in which all production mechanisms participate locally and globally. The construction industry is no exception to that reality. The present research evaluates the influence of construction activities, whether conventional or offsite, on 44 resilience variables that frame communities’ resilience following an evidence-based approach. The assessment shows that the construction industry, through its activities, contributes to more than half of the resilience variables.
