<p>As a new pattern of sharing economy, ride-splitting services can enhance vehicle utilization efficiency, ease traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions. However, they accounts for only a small percentage of the total ride-sourcing market. This study compares adoption beliefs between potential (pre-adoption) and experienced (post-adoption) ride-splitting passengers in China, and develops a two-group adoption model extended from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with five external variables. Based on 379 valid questionnaires (164 potential passengers and 215 experienced passengers) from online and field surveys, the results of structural equation modeling and multi-group analysis show significant differences in adoption intention between two groups. Potential passengers’ intentions mainly rely on affective factors like social influence and perceived enjoyment. For experienced passengers, intentions are driven by both social influence and utilitarian factors (perceived usefulness, ease of use and attitude), which are further affected by system quality, perceived enjoyment and perceived environmental friendliness, with a primary focus on utilitarian judgments. These results help mobility platforms design targeted promotion strategies for different passenger groups, expand the ride-splitting market and support urban sustainable transport development.</p>
