<p>The development of sustainable agriculture depends heavily on environmental regulation. Well-designed environmental regulations have the power to incentivize agricultural producers to improve their production methods, increase production efficiency, and ultimately enhance total factor productivity in agriculture. With an emphasis on the “Blue Sky Defense” environmental policy implemented in China, this study examines the effects of environmental regulations on agricultural green total factor productivity (GTFP) using a Difference-in-Differences model. The findings are as follows: (1) The implementation of the “Blue Sky Defense” environmental policy notably enhances agricultural green total factor productivity in China. (2) GTFP growth can be driven by technological innovation and enhanced air quality. (3) The eastern and northeastern regions of China experience a particularly pronounced effect of the “Blue Sky Defense” policy on agricultural GTFP, while the central and western provinces do not.</p>
