Sustainable innovation: The role of green HRM in SMEs in developing markets
摘要
This study aims to investigate the impact of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on green innovation and environmental performance on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, utilizing the Ability, Motivation, and Opportunity (AMO) theory and the Resource-Based View (RBV). Considering the major environmental issues that the SMEs face in emerging economies, understanding how internal management applications contribute to sustainable performance has become increasingly essential. Data were gathered from 425 employees in the GCC region across various SMEs through a structured questionnaire, and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. These results confirm that GHRM applications have a significant positive influence on both green innovation and environmental performance. Moreover, the connection between GHRM and environmental sustainability is moderated by green innovation, highlighting its critical role in translating GHRM practices into tangible ecological benefits. The Findings add to the theoretical frameworks by demonstrating GHRM’s crucial role as a valuable and inimitable asset that enhances organizational capabilities in sustainability. These results suggest that SMEs should integrate GHRM practices into their strategic frameworks to foster sustainable innovation and environmental performance, while policymakers are encouraged to support the adoption of such practices through appropriate sustainability-oriented initiatives. Future research should explore the longitudinal impacts of GHRM and extend the investigation to different cultural and economic contexts to validate these findings further.
