<p>The criterion for ecological compensation is intrinsically Linked to the fair advancement of both protected regions and benefit regions within the watershed. Drawing upon land use data for the Taihu Lake Basin from 2010 to 2023, this study employs the equivalent factor method to estimate the ecosystem service value (ESV) of the region, revises the gross domestic product (GDP) by using the nighttime light data, and develops a vertical compensation framework grounded in the eco-economic harmony (EEH) and ecological compensation priorities of the basin. Additionally, it establishes a horizontal ecological compensation model that takes into account population, GDP, and regional area. The results showed that: (1) The ESV of the Taihu Lake Basin experienced a reduction, dropping from 184.445&#xa0;billion Yuan in 2010 to 176.375&#xa0;billion Yuan by 2023, reflecting a general downtrend in individual ecosystem services. (2) The ecological economy is in a transitional zone of conflict coordination. Cities categorized as Priority I and Priority Ⅱ are situated in the western part of the basin, whereas Priority Ⅲ cities cluster in the eastern region. (3) The vertical ecological compensation for the basin amounts to 886.07&#xa0;million Yuan, with Huzhou contributing the highest proportion at 58.83% of the total. The total horizontal ecological compensation stands at -9.102&#xa0;billion yuan, with variations in the regions providing and receiving compensation across different standards and years. This study provides a reference for formulating ecological compensation standards for river basin.</p>
