<p>In Vietnam, as in many other Asian countries, the drive toward organic agriculture has intensified in response to mounting environmental pressures and the quest for sustainable production. However, a paradox persists: despite rising interest, the rate of conversion from conventional to organic farming remains modest because most farmers hesitate to adopt the new model. This study therefore examines the determinants of rice farmers’ willingness to transition in the Mekong River Delta, one of the largest rice-producing deltas in Asia. Employing a discrete-choice experiment coupled with a conditional logit model, we surveyed 160 households across two provinces. The results reveal a substantial knowledge gap in organic farming techniques; farmers rely predominantly on informal information sources such as neighbours, local organisations, and mass media, underscoring an urgent need for structured training programmes. Further analysis identifies several key drivers of adoption: access to technical support and consultancy services, guaranteed price premiums for organic produce, transparent traceability mechanisms, collaborative arrangements with neighbouring farmers, and incremental production costs that remain within acceptable bounds. Collectively, these findings enrich the theoretical understanding of organic-transition behaviour by demonstrating the intertwined influence of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. They also inform policy by underscoring the need to establish an enabling support ecosystem that combines targeted interventions with systematic educational initiatives, thereby stimulating broader adoption of organic rice cultivation and advancing the overarching agenda of sustainable agricultural transformation.</p>
