<p>India's rural housing sector confronts various challenges due to geographical diversity, socioeconomic factors, resource scarcity, and a lack of design knowledge. To reside in rural houses a significant level of architectural design quality is needed for a livable environment. However, the lack of thorough Key performance indicators (KPI) makes it challenging to assess the architectural quality of rural Indian houses. To address this gap, the research conducted a novel investigation. Firstly, a comprehensive literature review is conducted to identify relevant indicators associated with high-quality design in rural housing. Secondly, the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) was utilized, where experts from architecture, rural development, and housing voted and assigned rankings based on their significance and applicability. After the NGT ranking, the Pareto analysis approach is used to rate the parameters based on their overall influence. An intriguing feature of our study is the generation of a comprehensive inventory of indicators to assess the design quality of a rural house. These indicators were applied in Bondki village, Uttar Pradesh, as a pilot study to assess rural housing quality and identify areas for improvement. The study's conclusions will shed light on the important factors that must be taken into account while evaluating the current state of Indian rural house design quality. The established KPIs will prove to be valuable assets for architects, policymakers, and other stakeholders in the formation of initiatives aimed at enhancing design quality and decision-making of the rural housing development.</p>
