Product service supply chain decision considering network externality and corporate social responsibility in digital servitization

In digital servitization, manufacturers develop three mature servitization models, namely, service self-operating, service outsourcing, and cooperative service provision, which allows for the formation of the product service supply chain (PSSC) with retailers and customers. This study constructs a three-echelon PSSC considering the network externality and the corporate social responsibility (CSR) based on the Stackelberg game. The optimal solutions under centralized and decentralized decisions are given, and comparative analyses among different models are presented. The research objective of this paper is to clarify the contribution of network externality and CSR to the value creation of stakeholders in the process of digital servitization. The results show that network externality always increases the service price, service level, profit, and the product and service CSR levels. The concern of manufacturers and retailers for product and service CSR investments influences the decision of PSSC. In the cooperative service provision model, the increased customer numbers can directly improve the service price, service level and service CSR level, but the overall benefit is less than the model where manufacturers conduct service self-operating or outsourcing.
