<p><i>Longidorus parapinus</i> n. sp., recovered from eastern Tehran province associated with pomegranate trees was described and illustrated based upon morphological and molecular data. The new species is characterized by females 3.8–5.2 mm long, having a 10.0–11.5 <i>μ</i>m diameter lip region, slightly offset by a depression and almost flat at the frontal end, amphidial fovea pocket-shaped with symmetrical basal lobes, a moderately long odontostyle (81–91 <i>μ</i>m), a posteriorly located guiding ring (at 37.5–44.0 <i>μ</i>m from anterior end) and a short conical tail with broadly rounded terminus (31–37 <i>μ</i>m long, c = 123–148, cʹ = 1.2–1.4). Males were not found and sperm was not observed inside the female reproductive tracts. The last juvenile developmental stage was identified. The polytomous codes for the new species are: A3, B1, C34, D3, E2, F2(3), G23, H2, I1, J?, K?. Based on the shared indexes “A”, “C”, “D” and “H”, which respectively correspond to the length of odontostyle, distance of guiding ring from anterior, shape of anterior body end and tail shape, it was concluded that the new species is closely related to the following species: <i>L. apulus</i>, <i>L. auratus</i>, <i>L. azarbaijanensis</i>, <i>L. ferrisi</i>, <i>L. milanis</i>, <i>L. mirus</i>, <i>L. pinus</i> and <i>L. sturhani</i>, a group of morphologically similar species forming a tentative “species complex”. The species <i>L. pinus</i> constitutes the tentative cryptic form of the new species and was separated from the new species using morphological and molecular criteria. The phylogeny of <i>Longidorus</i> was updated using the maximal number of currently available sequences of the D2-D3 expansion segments of LSU rDNA.</p>
