<p>Although parent and family involvement in children’s education is a goal for most educators, the specific challenge of achieving widespread parent volunteering that is acceptable to all stakeholders has not been adequately addressed in existing research. This paper seeks to synthesize research on parents’ and teachers’ perceptions and mindsets regarding parent volunteerism. It highlights the research gap in countries outside the United States, particularly lower-income nations. It describes the complexities of stakeholder dynamics and describes conditions that lead to productive volunteering. It proposes a framework for contextualizing school-based volunteering within the broader spectrum of parental involvement in children’s education. The paper concludes with actionable implications for stakeholders and a note on terminology.</p>
