New distribution records of the common lionfish Pterois cf. miles (Scorpaeniformes: Scorpaenidae) from the Mediterranean Sea (islands of Brač and Šolta, Croatia)
摘要
Two specimens of the common lionfish Pterois cf. miles were recorded in two locations in the central-eastern Adriatic Sea. The first specimen was recorded in Rt Kobila on the island of Brač at a depth of 12 m, and the second in Mija luka Bay on the island of Šolta at a depth of 9 m. Both specimens were photographed while scuba diving. These locations represent the northernmost occurrence area compared to the previous sites in the Adriatic Sea, but also in the Mediterranean; however, they are not sufficient to establish that the species is significantly populated in the area, but urgent research is certainly needed to avoid adverse effects on the local ecosystem.
