<p>Developers can upscale the overall quality and user experience of their mobile applications by leveraging the actionable insights provided by user-posted reviews, which shed light on concerns and satisfaction. App reviews have been used extensively in past research, but their breadth, size, and/or analysis have been constrained and focused mostly on the features, design, and content of learning applications. The goal of this study is to provide a thorough examination of user reviews on two pivotal areas (usability and security &amp; privacy) of mobile learning apps. We present a very extensive investigation and analysis of over 2&#xa0;million user reviews of 16 shortlisted mobile learning apps targeting various mobile learning domains in this work. The research administered the classification of user reviews into <i>usability</i> and <i>security &amp; privacy</i> after considering various attributes related to both aspects. Based on the analysis of results, showed that users’ reviews discussed more <i>usability</i> aspects than the <i>security &amp; privacy</i> side. However, the majority of reviews that deal with <i>security &amp; privacy</i> issues have a negative star rating, whereas the majority of reviews that deal with the usability of mobile learning applications are favorable. By carefully examining a sample of 500 user evaluations from both examined aspects, we were able to validate our findings. The findings of this study present user reviews evaluations and aid the mobile application developer by suggesting some recommendations that would provide more effective, secure, and convenient apps.</p>

摘要

Developers can upscale the overall quality and user experience of their mobile applications by leveraging the actionable insights provided by user-posted reviews, which shed light on concerns and satisfaction. App reviews have been used extensively in past research, but their breadth, size, and/or analysis have been constrained and focused mostly on the features, design, and content of learning applications. The goal of this study is to provide a thorough examination of user reviews on two pivotal areas (usability and security & privacy) of mobile learning apps. We present a very extensive investigation and analysis of over 2 million user reviews of 16 shortlisted mobile learning apps targeting various mobile learning domains in this work. The research administered the classification of user reviews into usability and security & privacy after considering various attributes related to both aspects. Based on the analysis of results, showed that users’ reviews discussed more usability aspects than the security & privacy side. However, the majority of reviews that deal with security & privacy issues have a negative star rating, whereas the majority of reviews that deal with the usability of mobile learning applications are favorable. By carefully examining a sample of 500 user evaluations from both examined aspects, we were able to validate our findings. The findings of this study present user reviews evaluations and aid the mobile application developer by suggesting some recommendations that would provide more effective, secure, and convenient apps.
