Critical factors for why ChatGPT enhances learning engagement and outcomes
摘要
The present study investigated the potential of ChatGPT in enhancing the learning outcomes and engagement. Data were gathered from a survey of 687 university personnel and higher education students who utilized ChatGPT for educational purposes. The conceptual framework of the study was validated and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results demonstrated that ARCS played a mediating role in linking Self-Efficacy to Engagement and Mental Load to Engagement. Furthermore, Mental Load mediated the relationship between Self-Efficacy and self-reported outcomes, whereas Engagement influenced the association between ARCS and self-reported measures. Additionally, perceptions of Self-Efficacy and Attitude functioned as moderating variables, thereby influencing the relationships of ARCS with Mental Load and Engagement. The theoretical and educational implications of these findings for the integration of AI into education have been discussed.
