<p>A new aliphatic lactone, 2-heneicos-(<i>Z</i>)-3-en-1,5-olide (<b>1</b>), along with six known compounds (<b>2–7</b>), were isolated from the roots of rice (<i>Oryza sativa</i> L.) (Gramineae). The structure of these two new aliphatic lactones was elucidated by physical evidence.</p>

A new aliphatic lactone, 2-heneicos-(Z)-3-en-1,5-olide (1), along with six known compounds (2–7), were isolated from the roots of rice (Oryza sativa L.) (Gramineae). The structure of these two new aliphatic lactones was elucidated by physical evidence.
