<p><i>Daphnia magna</i> Straus, 1820, a Holarctic water flea and a well-known model organism, has been detected for the first time in Lake Titicaca. Genetic analyses revealed that the Lake Titicaca population is closely related to European strains, differing significantly from natural populations in North America. The findings suggest a likely human-mediated introduction, potentially through scientific and educational activities, tourism, or aquaculture. This raise concerns about further spread in South America due to the widespread use of <i>D. magna</i> in ecotoxicological research. Its establishment in Lake Titicaca may lead to ecological impacts, particularly through interactions with native species such as <i>Daphnia</i> cf. <i>pulex</i>. Continued monitoring is necessary to understand the ecological consequences of this introduction in high-altitude Andean lakes.</p>
