Pharmacological Effects of Humic Substances and the Signaling Mechanisms of Their Implementation
摘要
The analysis of current data and our own research findings have shown that humic substances represent a promising group of natural compounds with diverse pharmacological properties, including immunotropic, cardio-, neuro-, hepatoprotective, vasodilatory, antibacterial, and antiviral effects. The review presents information on therapeutic applications of humic substances derived from various sources and pharmaceutical preparations based on them in the treatment of diabetes, HIV infection, myocardial and cerebral ischemia, colitis, and some other pathological conditions. Research on the pro-apoptotic and anti-melanogenic effects of these compounds will enhance the effectiveness of existing approaches in the treatment of malignant tumors. This review presents data on the use of humic substances for developing novel drug delivery systems with tailored functionalities as a promising strategy in clinical oncology. Humic acids from peat exhibit stress-relief activity comparable to that of standard medications and preventive effects against exercise-induced fatigue. The review analyzes the intracellular mechanisms that play a key role in the realization of the effects of humic substances.
