The production of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from cultivated blue crab shells and their application in the optical detection of heavy metals in aquaculture
摘要
In this study, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were successfully synthesized from cultivated blue crab shells (Callinectes sapidus) using microwave synthesis, and their potential application for the optical detection of heavy metal ions in aquaculture environments was investigated. CQDs, known for their high fluorescence properties, are eco-friendly nanomaterials ideal for monitoring heavy metal contamination in aquatic systems. The CQDs produced here demonstrated selective detection of heavy metal ions, offering an innovative sensor platform that contributes to environmental sustainability within the aquaculture industry. XRD, FT-IR, UV–Vis, PL, AFM, and particle distribution analyses confirmed that the synthesized CQDs are chitosan-based, featuring NH₂, COOH, and OH surface functional groups that enable high selectivity and sensitivity to heavy metal ions. Additionally, colloidal stability analyses revealed that CQDs remain soluble in aqueous environments for extended periods, providing a significant advantage for environmental monitoring applications. This study highlights that CQDs derived from blue crab shells ( BCS) are strong candidates for heavy metal detection, offering a sustainable monitoring platform for aquaculture and environmental technologies.
