摘要

Robots have been widely utilized in the workplace. Drawing on objectification theory, this study examines the effect of the usage of robots on employees’ helping behavior, along with the mediating role of workplace objectification and the moderating role of collectivism. We conducted three studies to test our hypotheses. Study 1 is a scenario-based experimental study involving 130 participants. Studies 2 and 3 collected three-wave data from 273 to 358 full-time Chinese employees respectively. The results show that the usage of robots is positively related to employees’ workplace objectification, and workplace objectification mediates the effect of the usage of robots on employees’ helping behavior. Collectivism moderates the effect of workplace objectification on employees’ helping behavior, and the indirect effect of the usage of robots on employees’ helping behavior through workplace objectification, whereby the both effects are stronger when collectivism is low. Theoretical contributions and management implications are discussed.
