<p>Ponto‑Caspian gobies are among the most successful freshwater invaders in Europe and North America. Here, we evaluate the spatiotemporal dynamics of these species within the Dnipro River system and place the findings in the context of continental‑scale invasions. Classical sampling surveys were combined with a comprehensive literature synthesis and citizen science data to assess (i) the chronology of colonisation, (ii) upstream spread rates, (iii) habitat associations, and (iv) the Dnipro’s role as a source for other basins. Colonisation of the upper Dnipro tributaries by the monkey goby (<i>Neogobius fluviatilis</i>) dates back to the early 1930s. Subsequent surveys reveal that the monkey goby has now penetrated ~ 70% of the total length of the main tributary network. The western tubenose goby (<i>Proterorhinus semilunaris</i>) and racer goby (<i>Babka gymnotrachelus</i>) are abundant in medium-sized tributaries. In contrast, the round goby (<i>Neogobius melanostomus</i>) and bighead goby (<i>Ponticola kessleri</i>) mainly occur in sites near the Dnipro River mainstream. The findings underscore the need for integrated monitoring and barrier management in regulated river systems to curb further spread of Ponto‑Caspian gobies. Thus, other basin-wide studies in other river systems are required to understand the invasion of Ponto-Caspian gobies.</p>
