<p>Considering the prevalence and consequences of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), identifying factors associated with GAD is of critical importance. While recent studies have highlighted the role of positive childhood experiences in individuals’ mental health, earlier literature has predominantly focused on adverse childhood experiences and their outcomes. To address this limitation and support current research, the present study aims to examine the serial mediating role of difficulties in emotion regulation (DER) and anxiety sensitivity in the relationship between positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and GAD. Data were collected from 445 adults aged 18 to 60 years (<i>M</i><i>age</i> = 31.23, <i>SD</i> = 8.90; 73.93% female). The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that DER and anxiety sensitivity play a serial mediating role in the relationship between PCEs and GAD. In other words, higher levels of PCEs reduce DER and anxiety sensitivity, which in turn lower GAD levels. Consequently, preventive and intervention efforts targeting GAD are recommended to focus on reducing DER and anxiety sensitivity, as well as emphasizing the importance of PCEs. Overall, the results underscore the significance of childhood experiences and contribute to the identification of social, cognitive, and emotional factors that may be associated with GAD.</p>

摘要

Considering the prevalence and consequences of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), identifying factors associated with GAD is of critical importance. Data were collected from 445 adults aged 18 to 60 years (Mage = 31.23, SD = 8.90; 73.93% female). Overall, the results underscore the significance of childhood experiences and contribute to the identification of social, cognitive, and emotional factors that may be associated with GAD.
