Akuter und subakuter Husten – Was tun?
摘要
Cough is the most common symptom leading to medical consultations. The correct diagnostics and treatment are essentially based on a classification according to the duration (i.e., acute < 3 weeks, subacute 3–8 weeks and chronic > 8 weeks). A clarification of the causes of this symptom in acute and subacute cough is only necessary when warning signs for a potentially life-threatening disease are present, e.g., dyspnea, hemoptysis, chest pain, fever, cyanosis, hoarseness, suspicion of pneumonia or tuberculosis, heart failure and intoxication by inhaled noxa. The most frequent causes of acute cough are common cold infections of the upper airways. Antibiotics are not indicated for a cough resulting from common cold infections. An acute relief of symptoms can be expected using herbal preparations and medications to reduce the inflammatory irritation of cough receptors.
