The role of sports nurse: a scoping review
摘要
The literature shows few studies related to sports nursing. This study aims to map the literature on sports nurses and identify the knowledge and skills that professionals in this area should possess.
MethodsA search was conducted across the main international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO, and Web of Science. No geographical or publication data limits were applied. The search was limited to articles published in English, French, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese.
ResultsIn the end, 16 studies were considered for the scoping review: 5 narrative studies, 3 commentary studies, 2 qualitative studies, 2 quasi-experimental studies, 2 observational studies, 1 narrative review study, and 1 study describing a protocol for a randomised controlled trial. Based on the literature, a sports nurse must accurately record key parameters, interpret results, and perform electrocardiograms during sports medicine visits, fitness assessments, and physical activity consultations. They also have an educational role and are involved in the management of sports injuries.
ConclusionsIn the literature, the sports nursing profession is a relatively understudied field. Further studies are needed to explore the potential for enhancing the nursing curriculum in sports medicine.
