Aim <p>To evaluate the quality and reliability of YouTube videos providing exercise recommendations for hypertension management.</p> Subject and methods <p>A YouTube search using the keywords “hypertension exercises” and “blood pressure exercises” was performed to retrieve the first 300 videos. After applying predefined inclusion criteria, 70 videos were selected. Two experienced physicians independently evaluated each video using the DISCERN instrument and the Global Quality Scale (GQS), with final scores determined by consensus.</p> Results <p>The mean DISCERN and GQS scores across all videos were 2.6 ± 0.85 and 2.6 ± 0.88, respectively, indicating overall low quality and reliability. Videos uploaded by physicians had significantly higher DISCERN (3.6 ± 0.81) and GQS (3.5 ± 0.74) scores than those uploaded by non-physicians (2.34 ± 0.61 and 2.4 ± 0.76, respectively; <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). No significant difference was found in the mean Video Power Index (VPI) between the two groups (<i>p</i> = 0.175). A strong positive correlation was observed between DISCERN and GQS scores (<i>r</i> = 0.713, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001), while no correlation was found between these scores and the VPI.</p> Conclusion <p>Although YouTube is a widely accessible platform for health information, the quality and reliability of exercise-related content for patients with hypertension are generally low. Videos created by physicians demonstrate significantly higher quality and reliability, underscoring the need for more professional guidance in digital health content.</p>
