<p>The Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics of&#xa0;the Czech Academy of Sciences (IRSM CAS) contributed as a partner to the 2025 Advanced Institute on Landslide Risks in the Mountains of Northern Mainland Southeast Asia. The event was convened from 24 to 28 March 2025 in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, by the University of Agriculture and Forestry and financially supported by the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk International Centre of Excellence Taipei (IRDR ICoE). It focused on landslide risk in the mountainous regions of northern mainland Southeast Asia. The IRSM CAS contributions aligned with its commitment to the Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020, focusing on a community-based landslide disaster risk reduction (cbLDRR) approach, which forms an important and still not sufficiently applied aspect of landslide risk reduction efforts. A field visit to the landslide-affected Lang Nu village underscored the importance of communities in disaster response and mitigation. Feedback from the 2025 Advanced Institute participants revealed persistent challenges in cbLDRR, such as limited institutional support, fragmented governance, and resource sustainability.</p>
