Exploring the relationship between socio-demographic, economic, and organizational factors and hunting participation: pilot assessment in Morocco with implications for hunting management
摘要
Understanding and identifying factors that influence hunting participation is crucial for the sustainability of hunting. Therefore, it is pertinent to investigate how socio-demographic, economic, and organizational factors may affect the number of hunting days (NHD). Data were collected in 2021 from 247 hunters in the province of Benslimane (northwest Morocco) and analyzed using the generalized linear models (GLM) and variation partitioning (VP). NHD was positively associated with hunting in groups, the presence of hunters with multiple sources of income, and economic expenditures (accommodation and weapons). The results also highlighted the preference of older, more experienced hunters for touristic hunting companies, while younger hunters were more attracted to associative and public hunting territory. The VP revealed that the pure fraction of the economic component was the most robust in explaining the NHD (23%), followed by the joint fraction of economic and hunting organizations (12%). It would be worthwhile to test the generality of our results using the same analytical approach in other Moroccan hunting areas.
