Plant Associated Soil Microbial Communities in Abiotic Stress Resilience: Understanding the Response Mechanism for Sustainable Agriculture

Abiotic stress, such as salinity, drought, and heavy metals, poses a major challenge to global agriculture. These disrupt the physiological processes of plants, reduce crop productivity, and threaten food security. Soil microbial communities play a crucial role in enhancing plant resilience by mobilizing nutrients, modulating hormones, and signaling stress. This review integrates the knowledge on the diversity and mechanisms of plant-associated microbes under abiotic stress, integrating insights from multi-omics approaches. We highlighted the translational applications for sustainable agriculture and microbial traits that contribute to stress tolerance. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing climate-resilient agricultural systems and reducing reliance on chemical inputs. This approach paves the way for next-gen bioinoculants and solutions to support climate-smart farming.
