Effect of Plant Growth Regulators on Yield, Fruit Quality, and Physiological Traits of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. ‘Dasheri’

The present study evaluated the effect of plant growth regulators (PGRs) on yield, fruit quality, and physiological traits of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. ‘Dasheri’ using a randomized block design with eight treatments and three replications. The treatments included 1‑naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), paclobutrazol (PBZ), salicylic acid (SA), spermidine, boron, and forchlorfenuron (CPPU) applied individually or in combinations. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among treatments for all traits studied. The treatments NAA combined with CPPU and PBZ combined with spermidine delivered superior outcomes through their effect on fruit set and retention and on yield and quality attributes, which included total soluble solids and total sugars. The improvement in yield attributes was associated with enhanced fruit retention and increased number of fruits per tree. The PGR treatments led to significant improvements in physiological traits, including shelf life. Most traits exhibited high heritability together with moderate genetic advance, indicating that additive gene action was present. In a principal component analysis, the first principal component explained 93.68% of total variation in yield and quality traits. The results show that the integrated use of PGRs improves productivity and fruit quality in mango cv. ‘Dasheri.’
