Value Chain Analysis of Siirt Pistachio Sector in Türkiye
摘要
This study examines the organizational structure of the Siirt pistachio value chain and evaluates the economic performance and profitability of its key actors, including producers, processors, wholesalers and retailers, based on data collected during the 2020–2021 production period.
The findings indicate that, according to the research results, actors within the chain largely operate independently, and institutional coordination remains weak. The marketing structure is fragmented due to the presence of multiple intermediaries, limiting producers’ direct access to final markets.
While producers achieve the highest profit margin per unit, their total income is constrained by small-scale production. The production volume is relatively low compared to the processing and trading capacities of downstream actors. Furthermore, the biennial bearing pattern of Siirt pistachio leads to income volatility across years.
Despite these challenges, producers continue their activities due to profitability, family-based production traditions, and favorable climatic conditions. The study offers strategic recommendations to enhance productivity and stability in the sector. It particularly emphasizes the importance of supporting producer cooperatives and integrating marketing systems to strengthen coordination, expand market access, and mitigate income fluctuations.
By providing a comprehensive analysis of the Siirt pistachio value chain, the study contributes evidence-based insights to inform stakeholders and policymakers aiming for sustainable regional development.
