Exogenous Gibberellin4+7 and Benzyladenine Application Promotes Return Bloom, Vegetative Growth, Fruit Set and Yield of Apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) cv. ‘Red Velox’

The present research was carried out during 2020–2021 at the Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station at Mashobra, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. Apple trees aged 5 years and grafted on M9 rootstock were sprayed with gibberellin (GA)4+7 + benzyladenine (BA) at different growth stages of apple cv. ‘Red velox’. The study demonstrated that GA4+7 + BA significantly influenced apple production metrics and vegetative development at varying doses and times. Optimum vegetative growth and leaf area among the various treatments were recorded with the application of GA4+7 + BA at 10 ppm. Meanwhile, plants treated with GA4+7 + BA at 1ppm exhibited the highest return bloom. The highest percentage of fruit set was recorded in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA at 5 ppm. Moreover, the highest fruit retention was observed with GA4+7 + BA at 10 ppm application. A higher percentage of total yield was observed in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA at 7.5 ppm over all other treatments. Maximum yield efficiency was recorded when GA4+7 + BA was applied at 2.5 ppm. This investigation revealed that the use of GA4+7 + BA can be recommended to enhance the fruit set and yield of the apple crop.
